Have Our Schools Changed? – You Betcha?

School has changed and the changes have not been caused by the  educational system.

Many of the school  buildings I have worked in have posters on the walls in each classroom right next to the tornado and fire drill instructions that detail the following things:
What to do in case of an intruder/suspicious person

What to do in case of an abusive parent

What do to in the case of gunfire in the neighborhood?

What to do in case of gunfire while on the playground

What to do in case of gunfire in the building.

Additionally each teacher has a placard for their use that detailed some more potential problems and the prescribed action to take. The list included:

Suicide threat
Successful suicide
Suspicious objects
Stabbings
Sexual Assault
Assault
Bomb Threat
Abductions
Entrapment
Disorder or Riot
Death
Hazmat situations
Explosions
Lockdowns

Nothing on the walls about wearing a belt, chewing gum, tucking in your shirt, or how long your skirt is!

About safrisri

I was a school teacher until retirement. I have taught at all educational levels from pre-school to college. My college degree is general science which I arrived at after 5 years and 5 different majors. A degree as it turns out, almost as valuable and in demand as one in Neo-Bulgarian Mythology. I have been around education for around 40 years and can remember when teaching was a pleasant, happy and creative job and our schools were the same. Now I'm the guy sitting on the porch with an opinion on everything.
