All Men and Women Are Not Created Equal!

All Men/women are Created Equal, a lofty promise under the law of the land.  I believe that all men and women deserve equal protection and oppoortunity under the law.  But in truth it is clear, that all men/women are not created equal in physical, creative or mental capabilities What then must we do?
If we assume that all can handle even the most challenging mental and physical tasks we condemn a large portion of our society to failure. If we assume that none can or should do the more challenging physical and mental activities then we condemn not our people but our society to mediocrity. Would it not be best that we take people where they are at and attempt to  move them forward rather than moving the two ends, high and low, towards the middle. Politically if we, as a people, expect or demand littlefrom out citizens  then our attempts will be met with success because the least among us can be taught many things and the best already know it.
Any society that believes that the equal treatment of un-equals is a just goal needs to read or re-read Harrison Bergeron or 1984.

About safrisri

I was a school teacher until retirement. I have taught at all educational levels from pre-school to college. My college degree is general science which I arrived at after 5 years and 5 different majors. A degree as it turns out, almost as valuable and in demand as one in Neo-Bulgarian Mythology. I have been around education for around 40 years and can remember when teaching was a pleasant, happy and creative job and our schools were the same. Now I'm the guy sitting on the porch with an opinion on everything.
