Let’s Let them in Their Free Time

According to a pole taken in 2014.   71% of the people  want to let teachers discipline off campus bullying…. Let?……. Let? They want to let teachers spend time controlling off campus bullying? Time for  he said she said! Time for  he said she said again! Time for Facebook!   Time for Twitter!..Time  for  Instagram! Time for lies!  Time to do all this checking up on bullying.  I must ask , “Where the hell are their parents?
I’ve got a better idea let’s “let” the parents work on that and maybe even character, behavior and motivation while they are at it. I seem to have faint memories of when the parents had some responsibility for the actions of their children. It’s the three R’s not TFI (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram). Time is the absolute one thing that teachers do not have enough of. “Let” them do this? I don’t doubt that many already are doing this,  but to mandate it,  to make bullying outside of school the responsibility of teachers is idiocy.   I am amazed at the sociological  hubris being hurled at our teachers and once again feel that an island in the middle of a lake somewhere is looking better all the time.
If the gist of this pole should  become reality I then propose that all misuses of grammar on billboards and in ads become the responsibility of the New York Times for remediation, mediation and correction.

About safrisri

I was a school teacher until retirement. I have taught at all educational levels from pre-school to college. My college degree is general science which I arrived at after 5 years and 5 different majors. A degree as it turns out, almost as valuable and in demand as one in Neo-Bulgarian Mythology. I have been around education for around 40 years and can remember when teaching was a pleasant, happy and creative job and our schools were the same. Now I'm the guy sitting on the porch with an opinion on everything.
