Are Politicians Blind in the Shakespearean Sense?

If we assume that politicians are not evil then we must find some other reason for their often self serving actions.  If we accept that politicians often seem to be in love with their ideas if not themselves then perhaps we can excuse their actions because they do not see  clearly the long term results of what they do or are proposing. Shakespeare seems to have  something to say about modern politicians…. it’s not what he was talking about or what he intended when he wrote these lines but still it seems a most apt description of the problem.

For I am much ashamed of my exchange:
But love is blind and lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit;

Aye, there’s the rub.

About safrisri

I was a school teacher until retirement. I have taught at all educational levels from pre-school to college. My college degree is general science which I arrived at after 5 years and 5 different majors. A degree as it turns out, almost as valuable and in demand as one in Neo-Bulgarian Mythology. I have been around education for around 40 years and can remember when teaching was a pleasant, happy and creative job and our schools were the same. Now I'm the guy sitting on the porch with an opinion on everything.
