Arguments cannot be answered by personal abuse; there is no logic in slander, and falsehood, in the long run, it defeats itself.”

The above quote by Ingersol is a capsule view of what happened in this election.

This 2016  United States election  is not the Apocalypse although I will concede that the hyperbolic press, a youthful electorate that never studied history,  and vitriolic campaigning may have made it seem so, for those who have not seen it before. Take heart as nearly all  Presidents move towards the center after election as I would have expected Clinton to do as well had she won . We need to hope for some good advisors surrounding the president  and a less contentious senate and house.

Trump was elected, in my opinion, on the back of concealed anger. Trump was not voted in,  rather Washington was voted out.   The polls were consistently  wrong because the Democratic machine in making Trump as  non-PC as possible caused  much  anger to be concealed from the pollsters and in fact what happened in the  voting booths this time was the very reason why we have secret ballots and dont just take a poll.

And I should note here that not a single person for whom I voted was elected at the state, county or federal level… first time I have been 100% wrong based on public opinion ( others may believe that is not the first)  but probably not the last.

Both campaigns were in fact  campaigns of verbal visceral voter intimidation. Whole classes of people were denigrated and put down as insignificant by both sides while factual cherry picking and  selective hearing ran rampant, gleefully  supported by a increasingly untrustworthy press.

The country will heal, not much will change, Federal momentum is both an awful and positive thing.    Some of us or old enough to understand that.

I almost always look back at what the past teaches us for some insight into what the future may hold.  In doing so I   found some quotes that  may apply.   Read as you may, some may comfort some may anger.

The Sun will come up tomorrow.”      Annie

“Victory has a hundred fathers and defeat is an orphan.     JFK

“When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.”     Anon

“I will remember this, thought Ender, when I am defeated. To keep dignity, and give honor where it’s due, so that defeat is not disgrace.      Ender’s Game

Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.      Mark Twain.

Nature teaches us that when things change we have three choices, Move, evolve or die” Anon

And the most important

“I never thought of losing, but now that it’s happened, the only thing is to do it right. That’s my obligation to all the people who believe in me. We all have to take defeats in life. ”
― Muhammad Ali

About safrisri

I was a school teacher until retirement. I have taught at all educational levels from pre-school to college. My college degree is general science which I arrived at after 5 years and 5 different majors. A degree as it turns out, almost as valuable and in demand as one in Neo-Bulgarian Mythology. I have been around education for around 40 years and can remember when teaching was a pleasant, happy and creative job and our schools were the same. Now I'm the guy sitting on the porch with an opinion on everything.
